Mollerussa will host the commemoration of the National Day of Catalonia on September 11th, at 10:30 AM, in the Municipal Park. The event will feature Nati Moncasi Salvia, who recently retired as head of Lleida's Central Libraries, as the official speaker.
Moncasi's address, originally from Bellvís and a resident of Mollerussa, is set to be a central moment of the celebration. According to Mayor Marc Solsona, her selection aims to bring a cultural and knowledge-based perspective, highlighting her professional career.
The commemoration will follow its usual structure, including a floral offering at the monument of the Senyera (Catalan flag) and speeches by local authorities and entities. The Coral Sant Isidori will provide musical accompaniment.
As a new initiative this year, the Mollerussa City Council will organize a preliminary event on September 9th to encourage citizen participation. Starting at 5:30 PM in the Town Hall Square, Catalan flags will be distributed to families while supplies last.
This initiative seeks to foster broader participation in the National Day, encouraging families to display the flag at their homes as a symbolic gesture. The aim is for the celebration to be shared by all citizens, emphasizing elements of Catalan popular culture and identity.
The activity, promoted by the Area of Social and Community Action, will involve the collaboration of several organizations: Músics per la Llibertat, Òmnium Cultural, the Agrupació Sardanista de Mollerussa, and the Casal Popular l’Arreu, all connected to Catalan culture, music, and tradition.
