Debris removal work on the property that collapsed on Wednesday in Vilanova de Bellpuig began this Thursday. Workers are using heavy machinery to remove elements that could cause further landslides and secure the affected area.
The collapse occurred around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday. The house, which consisted of a ground floor and two upper floors, completely caved in, trapping two of the four men of Senegalese nationality who were inside.
Two of the four people managed to exit on their own with minor injuries and were transferred to the Mollerussa CUAP (Primary Care Emergency Center). The other two were trapped under the rubble until they were rescued by emergency teams, sustaining serious injuries.
Meanwhile, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) and volunteers continue the search for the homeowner since Wednesday. Police confirmed the man is missing, although the Bombers (Firefighters) have ruled out the possibility that he is trapped under the building's remains.
