The thirty-five research centers of the Girona region, coordinated by the Institut Ramon Muntaner, met in Banyoles this February 2026 to discuss strategies for generational renewal.

These organizations, essential for heritage preservation, are seeking ways to engage younger generations. Narcís Figueras, president of the Coordinadora de Centres d'Estudis de Parla Catalana, describes their mission as research-based cultural associationism with local commitment.

"We conduct research with local commitment. It is a necessary sector with ironclad poor health."

Historian Jordi Galofré recently released a book chronicling the 82-year history of the Centre d'Estudis Comarcals de Banyoles. The text highlights the importance of veteran institutions like the Patronat d'Estudis Històrics d'Olot in protecting Catalan culture.
To stay relevant, centers are adopting social media platforms like Instagram. Despite digital pressure, the focus remains on academic rigor and publishing journals such as Quaderns, now available on the RACO digital repository.
