The difficulties that delayed the launch of the SAIAR in Benissanet were related to the former contractors of the facility, as well as complications in the supply of electricity and gas. The Mayor, Núria Morera, celebrated that, despite these “vicissitudes,” the center is finally a reality.
“"It is a service at the municipal level, it is highly valued, I would say among the best valued and with the best reception."
Currently, the space serves ten people with some degree of dependency, mostly residents of the town, although two users come from Móra d'Ebre. The council is requesting to double the number of places, up to 20, to eliminate the waiting list, which currently consists of fifteen people from the locality and the region.
The Secretary General of Social Rights and Inclusion, Raúl Moreno, noted that the department intends to respond to this request, but stressed that the expansion is conditional on the approval of the new budget accounts of the Generalitat.
“"Without budgets everything is more difficult, but budgets are not only for construction, but also to maintain the services we currently have."
This center was built from the shell of an old building that was left unfinished during the construction crisis. Across Catalonia, there are 85 centers of this type serving 850 people. Moreno also reiterated the commitment to build a dozen public residences for the elderly during this legislature.
