The General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies, in collaboration with central government sub-delegations and delegations, will conduct an ES-Alert system drill in municipalities near nuclear power plants in Burgos, Cáceres, Guadalajara, Tarragona, and Valencia.

This initiative, to be carried out in the coming days, aims to verify the operation of the mobile alert system in a nuclear risk scenario, which is a state competence. The alert will be notified from the National Emergency Monitoring and Coordination Center (CENEM) at the request of each involved sub-delegation.
Specifically, the test in Zone 1 of the PENTA of Vandellòs and l'Hospitalet de l'Infant is scheduled for April 27. Subsequently, on April 30, it will take place in Zone 1 of the PENTA of Ascó. The exercise will involve sending a message to mobile phone operators' networks, which will be disseminated to terminals connected to antennas in the Alert Areas.
The main objective is to check the coverage of the ES-Alert system in localities that are part of Zone I of the External Emergency Plans of the nuclear power plants, covering a radius of between zero and 10 kilometers around these facilities. The exercise will last between 15 and 20 minutes, during which repeater antennas will retransmit the message.
The notification, which will be issued around 11:00 AM, will reach all mobile devices within the designated area for the drill. The message will include a clear indication that it is a test, so it will not be necessary to contact the 112 emergency centers.
