The state mobile alert system, ES-Alert, will be tested in areas near the Ascó and Vandellòs II nuclear power plants between April 24 and May 13 to simulate emergency notifications.

This simulation will focus on Zone I, covering a ten-kilometer radius around the facilities, as part of Catalonia's external emergency plans (PENTA I). Specifically, the test in the area of the Vandellòs II plant, located in Baix Camp, will take place on April 27, while the one for the Ascó plant, in Ribera d'Ebre, will be conducted on April 29.
The management of nuclear emergencies is a state responsibility. Therefore, the Spanish government sub-delegation in Tarragona will be in charge of requesting the alert activation, which will then be notified by the State Emergency Monitoring and Coordination Center (CENEM). The exercise will begin at eleven in the morning, and the message will be transmitted for fifteen to twenty minutes through the telephone operators' antennas.
In addition to the tests in Catalonia, the ES-Alert system drill will also extend to other Spanish provinces such as Burgos, Cáceres, Guadalajara, and Valencia. In total, these tests will cover 61 municipalities and affect more than 75,000 residents.
