Prosecutor Fernando Bermejo continues to face obstacles in the Jordi Pujol Ferrusola trial at the National Court, as witnesses have failed to corner the accused regarding alleged illegal commissions.

The prosecution, led by Fernando Bermejo, has raised doubts about Jordi Pujol Ferrusola's intermediation work due to the absence of reports and contractual gaps. Nevertheless, several witnesses have defended the role of the eldest son or the cleanliness of the operations, including the Tivissa landfill case in 2002.

"Nobody pressured me to approve the license, nor did I hear that anyone else spoke of any blackmail or influence."

Antoni López Salgueira · Former Director General of Environmental Quality
The most notable testimony on January 26, 2026, came from Antoni López Salgueira, former Director General of Environmental Quality during the CiU governments. He stated emphatically that he approved the license for the exploitation of the Tivissa landfill to the company Gestió i Recuperació de Terrenys because all technical indicators supported it.
The prosecutor also mentioned Oriol Pujol Ferrusola, who was Secretary General of Labor, Industry, Commerce and Tourism at the time, although López Salgueira disconnected his position from that secretariat. For this case, the current Minister of Justice, Ramon Espadaler, who was then Minister of Environment, is also scheduled to testify.
Another line of investigation concerns the ISOLUX electrification project in Gabon. The jurist Cristian Gómez explained that the company's relationship with intermediaries was “very anarchic,” lacking uniform contracts or complete documentation, a fact that favors Pujol Ferrusola's defense. Meanwhile, Álvaro Rengifo, who signed the contract with Pujol Ferrusola's company, Project Marketing, said he did not recall if reports or market studies had been carried out.
