The Móra d'Ebre City Council is waiting for the Spanish Government to issue a technical diagnosis regarding the condition of the Pont de les Arcades, where spalling and potential aluminosis have been detected in the concrete.

The Pont de les Arcades (Bridge of the Arcades), which is the former crossing point of the N-420 over the Ebro River between Móra d'Ebre and Móra la Nova, is state-owned. The infrastructure, built in 1943 after the original bridge was destroyed during the Battle of the Ebro (1938), shows visible deterioration due to lack of maintenance. Under the bridge, the reinforced concrete's iron structure is exposed due to erosion.
The council has insisted on the urgency of a technical review, especially following the recent visit by the state subdelegate, as the pathology could be aggravated by river humidity and continuous traffic flow. The Mayor of Móra d'Ebre, Rubén Biarnès, has publicly denounced the situation.

"no maintenance work has been carried out for a long time"

The city council demands to know if additional safety measures are required, such as reducing the tonnage of vehicles crossing the bridge, a limit that is already in place.
In parallel, the council is working with the Institute for the Development of the Ebro Regions (IDECE) to recover a submerged section of the old iron bridge that crossed the Ebro River. This project, approved last September, aims to valorize the historical sites of the Battle of the Ebro within the Terres de l'Ebre Biosphere.
