The province of Girona, characterized by its geographical diversity spanning from the Axial Pyrenees to the Coastal Range, presents an extensive offering of peaks for enjoying nature. Whether you are an experienced hiker or a trail running enthusiast, there are a dozen must-visit peaks in Alt Empordà and the Girona regions.
Among the most notable is Puig de Bassegoda (1,373 m), located between Garrotxa and Alt Empordà, known for its pointed shape. Also, Puig Neulós (1,257 m), the highest point of the Albera mountain range, which has marked the border between Spain and France since the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659.
The highest point in the province is Puigpedrós (2,915 m), in Baixa Cerdanya, with a circular route that allows a visit to Malniu lake. Another emblematic peak is Puigmal (2,913 m), in Ripollès, accessible from the Sanctuary of Mare de Déu de Núria via the Cremallera train.
The list continues with Pic de Bastiments (2,881 m) and Pic de l'Infern (2,869 m), both in Ripollès, offering routes from the Ulldeter refuge. El Taga (2,040 m), also in Ripollès, is a landmark with its characteristic cross. Further south, in Montseny, we find Les Agudes (1,703 m) in La Selva and Matagalls (1,698 m) in Osona, the latter featuring a cross commemorating the poet Jacint Verdaguer.
Finally, Garrotxa hosts Comanegre (1,557 m), its highest peak, and Puigsacalm (1,514 m), the highest point of the Transversal Range. In Gironès, Puigsou (991 m) is the highest point of the Rocacorba Mountain, with a route leading to the sanctuary.
