Spain's two largest cranes have been working intensively in Sant Pau de Segúries to install the three metal structure sections that will form the future Carbur Bridge. On Wednesday, a 140-ton structure was placed, on Thursday the central piece weighing 180 tons and measuring 60 meters long, and the final piece on the Sant Pau side is expected to be installed on Monday.
Once the sections are welded and the lower fiber is concreted, the final platform will be laid, allowing for vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The bridge will be nearly 140 meters long and 12 meters wide, with a budget of 7.6 million euros. The works, initially planned for 12 months, have been extended to respect environmental considerations for the Ter river.
The Deputy Director General of Infrastructures, Maria Càlix, highlighted the complexity of the auxiliary actions and the need to work within 'environmental windows' to minimize impact on the surroundings.
The mayor of Sant Pau de Segúries, Albert Coma, visited the construction site and expressed satisfaction with the progress. He warned of traffic disruptions on Monday: a complete closure of 20-30 minutes starting at 8 AM on the C-38, followed by alternating traffic for several hours.
The local council is also working on an associated project for a roundabout at the northern entrance of the municipality, for which the drafting is being finalized and funding needs to be secured.
