The mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols, has shown a hostile attitude towards the two new councilors of the PSC, Paco Morillo and Jorge Iglesias, during the municipal plenary session.

The controversy arose during the swearing-in of the new socialist councilors, when Jorge Iglesias, born in Uruguay, spoke in Spanish to express his gratitude for the welcome. This action provoked a strong response from Mayor Orriols.
Orriols referred to the councilors as "scabs", stating that they "do not represent the voters" of the PSC and that they entered the council with "disloyalty and betrayal". Furthermore, she emphasized that "the natural and proper language of the principality of Catalonia is Catalan", ironically suggesting that Iglesias enroll in the adult education school in Ripoll to learn it.
The mayor also criticized the leadership of the PSC, labeling it "authoritarian" and accusing it of acting out of partisan interests. She expressed her perplexity at the party's decision to introduce a councilor "who does not live in Ripoll and does not speak Catalan".
This change in the Ripoll council occurs after the previous socialist councilors, Enric Pérez and Anna Belén Avilés, facilitated the approval of the municipal budgets with their abstention, a decision that did not align with the PSC's guidelines of not making agreements with far-right parties.
