Two British hikers were rescued this Monday by Firefighters in Queralbs, after spending the night outdoors when they were unable to continue their route towards the Coma de Vaca refuge due to the presence of ice and a lack of crampons.

The alert for the incident was received around a quarter to eleven in the morning, immediately activating a helicopter with personnel from the Special Actions Support Group (GRAE). The hikers were able to communicate their situation via satellite phone, reporting that ice and the steepness of the terrain had prevented them from advancing.
Given the impossibility of continuing on their path, the couple decided to spend the night in the open. This Monday morning, rescue teams located them and safely transported them from the area where they had been trapped.
Once rescued, the hikers were taken to the Queralbs car park, located next to the rack railway. According to the emergency services, the rest of the group they were traveling with was already at the Coma de Vaca refuge.
