The food group bonÀrea, headquartered in Guissona, is preparing for a significant change in its leadership, with founder Jaume Alsina ceding the presidency to his son Ramon Alsina during the general shareholders' meeting in May.

Jaume Alsina, aged 92 and a key figure in the creation and consolidation of bonÀrea, will step down from his position as president. His son, Ramon Alsina, currently the CEO, will assume the company's top leadership role. This transfer of power will be formalized within the framework of the general shareholders' meeting scheduled for May.
The decision requires a prior proposal from the group's board of directors, which will be presented concurrently with the meeting. This strategic move follows a successful fiscal year for the Segarra-based company, which closed 2024 with a turnover of 2,680 million euros and a 9.3% increase in profits, reaching 88.8 million. Currently, bonÀrea employs approximately 6,500 people.
Recently, the group announced ambitious plans for 2026, including the opening of around forty new stores. Of these, 20 will be new establishment inaugurations and 19 correspond to relocations or expansions of existing sales points. This expansion will add approximately 7,000 square meters of commercial space to its network, bringing the total number of operational stores to 632.
bonÀrea's growth strategy primarily focuses on Catalonia and Aragon, while also continuing its expansion in other regions such as the Community of Madrid, the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, and La Rioja. In 2025, the company carried out a total of 37 openings, underscoring its commitment to revitalizing rural areas and combating depopulation. Currently, bonÀrea has 200 stores located in rural towns, representing one-third of its total commercial network.
