The Swedish tour operator Quality Travel has confirmed its return to Lleida-Alguaire Airport for the winter season, organizing trips aimed at skiers who wish to access the Pyrenees. The first flight of this new phase is scheduled to arrive at the Lleida facilities next Sunday, February 8.
Quality Travel suspended its operations in Alguaire in 2022, citing the need to reduce costs following the coronavirus pandemic and mobility restrictions. During its last season, flights were also organized to Baqueira Beret, but the high cost of promoting that specific destination led to the relocation of operations to Toulouse, which offered a shorter flight distance and lower operating cost.
This winter season, the flights are expected to extend until March. Last winter, Lleida airport received more than 1,300 travelers on Polish Airlines planes, resulting from a contract between Lleida and Warsaw managed by the Polish tour operator Itaka.
Tour operators have been a key component in the Generalitat's strategy to ensure the airport's usage in recent years. Between 2011 and 2018, the majority of flights were contracted by the British firm Neilson, which utilized aircraft from Thomas Cook, a company that went bankrupt in 2019.
