The International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia, organized by the Lleida City Council, has announced the selection of 111 recent works that will compete in the official sections of the 2026 edition, taking place from February 19 to 22. The program features a significant presence of 2D animation, a strong authorial focus, and a clear commitment to diversity in perspectives and themes. The 30th edition of Animac revolves around the idea ‘Things change’, inviting reflection on processes of transformation and evolution through contemporary animation cinema.
The Animac 2026 selection brings together 111 works by authors from around the world, distributed across the Short Films, Future Talent, Petit Animac, and Animac Talent.cat sections.
The Official Short Films Section, distributed across five sessions, includes 35 films addressing themes such as childhood, memory, illness, or loneliness from an intimate and emotional perspective. Highlighted international titles include Une fugue (2025, France), by Agnès Patron, and Kutyafül (Dog Ear) (2025, Hungary), by Péter Vácz. Also featured is El cuerpo de Cristo (2025, Spain), by Bea Lema, an animated adaptation of the eponymous comic dealing with family experience marked by mental illness.
The Future Talent section, dedicated to short films from international animation schools, presents 32 selected works confirming the high creative level of new generations. Notable productions include Susurros (2025, France), from the Gobelins school, and Gauze (2025, France), which addresses the Palestinian conflict. For children and family audiences, Petit Animac offers 34 works, including Kugelfisch (Pufferfish) (2023, Germany), by Julia Ocker, and Les bottes de la nuit (2024, France), created using the complex pinscreen technique.
Finally, Animac Talent.cat focuses on emerging talent from schools in the Catalan countries with 10 selected short films. These include Ramen for Two (2025), from La Salle-URL, and Un trato brillante (2025), from the ECIB. The festival is supported by institutions such as CaixaForum Lleida, the Diputació de Lleida (IEI), and the Generalitat de Catalunya, through the ICEC.
