Cáritas Diocesana de Lleida has assisted approximately 40 seasonal fruit workers monthly in Ponent between October and January, highlighting their extreme precariousness after the agricultural season ends.

The organization confirmed that, within the framework of its Seasonal Workers and Residential Exclusion Program, support has been provided to about forty people monthly from October to January. These workers are involved in the fruit campaign in municipalities near Lleida.
Cáritas emphasizes the situation of vulnerability suffered by these individuals, especially during the winter months when field work stops. Many of them have an irregular administrative status, leaving them without stable income and facing great difficulties in accessing decent housing and protection from low temperatures.

"The current model leaves many people without real alternatives when the work in the fields ends, even though they continue to reside in the municipalities of Ponent and contribute to their social and economic fabric."

The situation is aggravated by the lack of municipal registration (empadronamiento), as the difficulty in accessing the municipal register in many towns in Ponent prevents them from accessing essential public services and complicates any process of social and administrative support.
Given the lack of stable public policies, Cáritas assumes the responsibility of offering basic food (about forty monthly kits), warm clothing, legal advice, and job training. The organization calls on administrations to strengthen coordination and implement structural, stable measures adapted to the reality of the municipalities.
