Chef Nil Albert wins the 35th Àngel Moncusí Young Chefs Competition in Lleida

The young talent from Isona took top honors with a creative take on traditional pork ribs and local apples.

Chef Nil Albert, born in Isona and trained in Sort, has won the first prize at the 35th Àngel Moncusí Young Chefs Competition held this Monday in Lleida.

The event, hosted at the Mercat del Pla and organized by ESCHOTUR and Hostaleria de Lleida, featured thirteen contestants aged 18 to 28. Participants were required to prepare a main course using pork ribs and a dessert featuring local apples or pears from the Ponent region.
Albert, currently working at l'Espurna restaurant, impressed the jury with his dishes Records de la costella de la padrina reinterpretada and Poma de Ponent. Sergio López from Cal Xirricló took second place, while Momoun Rahmouni was recognized for the best technical kitchen work.
The award ceremony was attended by Mayor Fèlix Larrosa and other local officials. The winner received a dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant and a hotel stay, highlighting the competition's role in promoting young culinary talent in Catalonia.
