A recent conference at the Monastery of Avinganya, in Seròs, brought together around fifty professionals to strengthen the links between education, culture, and heritage in the Segrià region.

For over a decade, the collaboration between the Centre d'Estudis Comarcals del Segrià, the Centre de Recursos Pedagògics del Segrià, and the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs has enabled activities to introduce regional heritage to teachers. This initiative materialized in the joint project “Descobrim el Segrià” (Discovering Segrià), with the main goal of enabling teachers from the region's educational centers to learn about their environment and its pedagogical possibilities.
The “Descobrim el Segrià” project has evolved from excursions to various locations to a training program featuring three trips to heritage sites. The new challenge is to create an educational community that extends beyond schools. To this end, on Saturday, April 18, around fifty professionals from education, cultural associations, and families participated in the conference “Construïm territori: jornada de vincles entre educació, cultura i patrimoni” (Building territory: a day of links between education, culture, and heritage) at the Monastery of Avinganya, in Seròs.
During the conference, experiences of collaboration between centers and entities were shared, highlighting the work of social and cultural organizations in Segrià and their potential to establish alliances with primary and secondary schools. These synergies are considered fundamental for connecting students with their environment, fostering knowledge of the territory, and strengthening a sense of belonging to their municipalities.
The participatory dynamics demonstrated the existing potential and the commitment of various stakeholders to promote future pilot collaboration experiences. The activity also allowed for the exploration of the agricultural and fluvial landscape, thanks to the organization by the Associació Espais Naturals de Ponent and the Culture Department of Seròs City Council. This initiative consolidates efforts to build strong links between education, culture, and territory, with the aim of understanding and cherishing the environment and strengthening the sense of belonging to a region with a rich heritage.
The “Descobrim el Segrià” project will continue to work with new collaborators, such as the Culture and Education Program of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Xarxa Educació 360 de les Terres de Lleida, to consolidate the network and ensure that knowledge and appreciation for the environment become a reality, despite challenges.
