The Mossos d'Esquadra police force reported a 62-year-old truck driver this Monday after he caused a collision on the A-22 highway in Almacelles while driving under the influence.

The incident occurred around 7:00 PM when a witness called the 112 emergency line to report a trailer truck that had side-swiped another vehicle carrying 17,000 liters of caustic soda. Despite the dangerous nature of the cargo, the collision only resulted in minor damage to the rearview mirror and bodywork, with no chemical leaks reported.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Mossos d'Esquadra patrols later spotted the vehicle driving erratically and zigzagging on the A-2 highway near Bell-lloc d'Urgell. Although the driver initially ignored police signals to pull over, officers eventually intercepted the truck on the N-II road.
Breathalyzer tests revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.90 mg/l, which is six times the legal limit for professional drivers. The individual, who has a prior record for similar offenses, is now facing criminal charges for reckless driving and driving under the influence. The case will be heard at the investigating court in Lleida.
