The former president of Lleida Esportiu, Albert Esteve, denied committing Social Security fraud during a trial held this Wednesday in Lleida, where he faces a potential six-year prison sentence.

The Prosecution maintains that the club defrauded 828,000 euros between 2014 and 2018. The irregularities involved failing to register players for social benefits or reporting fewer working hours than those actually performed by the athletes.

"I had no intention of failing to comply with labor regulations."

A Labor Inspector testified that the club obstructed the investigation, requiring Civil Guard assistance to access the Camp d'Esports offices. Inspectors found cases where players received unemployment benefits while actively playing for the team.
The defense argued that while administrative errors might have occurred, no criminal intent existed. Esteve claimed he was not responsible for contracts. The judge is now considering the verdict.
