Hiopos Lleida: Historic Season Start Amid Urgent Need for a Center

The heavy defeat against Valencia Basket does not overshadow the strong first half, but highlights serious issues in the 'five' position.

Despite the recent heavy defeat suffered against València, Hiopos Lleida, coached by Gerard Encuentra, maintains a positive balance, tying the best start to an ACB season in the city of Lleida.

Yesterday's loss on the València court was the toughest of the season, along with the one suffered against UCAM Múrcia at Barris Nord. Nevertheless, the team finished the first half with eight victories, matching the historical best mark for Lleida basketball in the ACB and surpassing San Pablo Burgos, which marks the relegation spots, by five wins.
This defeat occurred with a team depleted by the absences of Golomán (injured) and Ejim (absent due to “personal problems,” according to the club). Furthermore, Krutwig has been struggling physically for weeks, in addition to his evident technical limitations for the top league.

The club assured that the sports management is looking for a point guard or a combo capable of better moving the team and increasing scoring after the departure of the disappointing Zoriks.

Despite the search for a point guard, the analysis suggests that the most urgent position to cover is that of center ('pivot'). This position presents a serious problem, as Golomán is dealing with physical issues, Krutwig is far from the level required for an ACB center, and Diagne accumulates personal fouls with alarming ease, having been ejected in the last two games.
