The La Granja d'Escarp City Council has launched a heritage project this March to restore the Spanish Civil War trenches and defensive structures located at Tossal de la Punta del Calvari.

Supported by the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs (IEI), the initiative focuses on a strategic position overlooking the town. A specialized firm from Lleida will conduct the archaeological excavation and scientific documentation to ensure the site's historical integrity.

"The constructions allow for a viable intervention that will facilitate their conservation, adaptation, and subsequent enhancement as a visitable and interpretive space."

This effort is part of a broader regional movement in the Segrià and Baix Segre areas to recover democratic memory sites. Once completed, the trenches will serve as an educational landmark, joining a growing network of historical locations dedicated to the conflict's legacy.
