The city of Tarragona will be the inaugural venue for the second edition of the Pork and Fork League. This year, the competition introduces a notable novelty: at the Catalan Final, the professional jury's evaluations will be complemented by popular vote breakfast tables, as announced by the organizers. The competition, celebrating the culture of fork breakfasts in Catalonia, will take place between June and September, encompassing four provincial semifinals and one regional final.
Driven by the Grup de Sanejament Porcí de Lleida and the enogastronomic consultancy Como Pomona, the league is sponsored by BonÀrea and Carviresa, with institutional support from Gust de Lleida (Diputació de Lleida) and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Collaborating municipalities include Tarragona, Torrelameu, Santa Coloma de Farners, la Garriga, and Lleida, along with brands such as Port de Tarragona, Ilser Grup, and Sanmy.
Vicens Enrique-Tarancón, director of the Grup de Sanejament Porcí de Lleida, has detailed the schedule: the Tarragona semifinal will take place on Sunday, June 14th, at the Pèrgola del Serrallo of the Port de Tarragona. The Lleida semifinal is set for Sunday, June 28th, at the Torrelameu Civic Center; the Girona round will be held on Sunday, July 12th, in Santa Coloma de Farners; and the Barcelona finalists will gather at Can Luna in la Garriga on Sunday, September 6th. The grand Catalan Final, featuring the top three from each province, will conclude the competition on Sunday, September 27th, in Lleida, as part of the MOS de Sant Miquel Fair.
According to Rafa Gimena, director of the League and Como Pomona, this competition aims to "once again pay homage to this traditional meal as a gastronomic heritage of our culture, and at the same time honor the restaurant establishments that keep the recipes of these dishes alive".
The jury for each round will consist of recognized experts and disseminators, including journalist Joaquin Molins, influencer Jonathan Nuevo, and sommelier Marta Clot, accompanied by other professionals and influencers. In Tarragona, Helder Moya, Mario Castellanos, and Montse Jo will join. Journalist Claudia Raymat will host the events, ensuring entertainment and fun.
