The University of Lleida has opened the tender process for the execution of the urbanization works for the exterior parking lot of its Cappont Campus. This project, located between Avinguda de l'Estudi General and Carrer de Pere de Cabrera, has an allocated budget of €1,261,832.20 and an estimated execution period of four months. Once completed, the facility will offer 323 spaces for automobiles and 75 for motorcycles. Of these, 10 spaces will be adapted for people with reduced mobility and 8 will be reserved for charging electric vehicles.
Currently, the area functions as an open lot on a site that the UdL considers to require urgent intervention. The university points out that the poor condition of the ground, full of potholes, poses a safety risk, especially for individuals with reduced mobility. Furthermore, the demand for parking spaces from the university community exceeds the existing supply in the already paved areas of the campus.
This intervention aims to organize the space and traffic flow while improving sustainability. Permeable pavements will be implemented, along with a drainage system for rainwater, and trees will be incorporated to mitigate the urban heat island effect. The works will be divided into three zones based on urban planning classification and ownership. Zone A, non-buildable, will be paved and tree-lined. Zone B, owned by the UdL and buildable, will have more limited interventions, including only asphalt. Zone C, privately owned and temporarily ceded for use, will require minimal leveling, paving, and painting.
The Cappont campus parking lot has been the subject of numerous complaints for years due to potholes and the lack of order in vehicle parking, which has sometimes left other cars 'boxed in'. The previous rectoral team had already considered the need for its urbanization, but it is the current UdL administration that has approved moving forward with the project this year.
