The City Council of Lleida and several municipalities along the A-22 corridor established a working group this February to promote a new commuter rail line connecting the capital of Segria with Monzon.

The initiative aims to create a reliable rail service tailored to the territory's needs. Preliminary studies suggest the connection could serve 30.000 regular users and reach 700.000 passengers per year, provided there is a frequency of seven to ten trains per direction.

"Supply generates demand, and the goal is to reduce car dependency."

Felix Larrosa · Mayor of Lleida
The project is particularly relevant given the strong industrial growth in the area. It is estimated that 5.000 new jobs will be created in the A-22 highway corridor over the next two years. This economic boom is putting pressure on housing and mobility, making a public transport alternative urgent.
The final technical proposal will be submitted in the spring to the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Government of Aragon, and the Ministry of Transport. Reaching a three-way agreement is the main challenge for an infrastructure intended to unify an economic area beyond administrative borders.
