The space, which for over five decades has been a crucial hub for passenger transport in the city, presented a deserted image for most of the morning on its last day of operation. There were no vehicles parked or passengers waiting on the platforms, symbolizing the end of an era.
As of today, all bus companies are now making their stops at the new station located in Príncep de Viana. The old terminal will remain closed to the public, awaiting the Paeria's decision on its future use through an architectural competition.
“"There is no planned use for the space in the short term. To remodel the building requires a significant investment, and it makes no sense to do so with the understanding that the facility is to be transformed."
Councillor Roberto Pino explained that the City Council has extended the deadline for submitting proposals for the competition until July, due to the high number of inquiries received, especially regarding the space's plans. Companies Avanza and Gamón, with routes to Huesca, Zaragoza, and municipalities in Segrià and Noguera, were the last to operate from the old station.
Despite initial uncertainty about traffic mobility during the gradual transfer, which lasted approximately a month and a half with both stations operational, Pino assured that no collapse situation was detected. However, "mobility problems at specific and punctual moments" have been observed due to passengers alighting to reach the new station. Therefore, the councillor recommends using the train station's parking, which offers 15 minutes free, to facilitate traffic flow. The new station operates from Monday to Friday from 5:30 AM to 10:45 PM, and on weekends and holidays from 5:30 AM to 10 PM.
