The capital of Segrià is gearing up for an intense end to the sports season, with the hosting of the World Skate Europe Cup final four, the second-highest continental roller hockey competition. This event, scheduled for next weekend, solidifies Lleida's position as a venue for major sporting events, projecting the city internationally and reinforcing its role as a driver of economic promotion and social cohesion.
In this context, the Paeria has emphasized the importance of sport as a tool for social transformation and a meeting point. With the Sports Facilities Investment Plan, the city will surpass five million euros invested over four years, fulfilling the objectives set at the beginning of the mandate. These improvements aim to guarantee modern, comfortable, safe, and sustainable spaces for the sports community.
Recently, some of the ongoing improvements have been visited, such as those at the Mangraners football field, which now features new LED lighting, and where changing rooms will be renovated and a sports equipment storage facility will be set up. Similar actions will be carried out in more than thirty facilities, with a significant portion of the work planned for the summer, once the season concludes, to minimize interference. Upcoming actions include the expansion of the climbing wall and the replacement of the roof of the Juanjo Garra municipal pavilion, where lighting has already been renewed and new seating installed.
Sport is a driver of social transformation and a meeting point. We are proud to be, for the fourth time, the venue that will decide the champion of the second highest continental roller hockey competition.
The Sports Councillor of the Generalitat, Berni Álvarez, accompanied the visit to the facilities, showing sensitivity to Lleida's needs and sharing the vision of promoting sport as a tool for social cohesion. All these actions are part of the Strategic Sports Plan, a document developed with experts that includes data analysis and proposals to guarantee universal access to sports practice, and which will be presented in the coming weeks.
