The province of Lleida experienced a notable surge in fuel purchases during 2025, with 95-octane gasoline consumption increasing by almost 20%, just prior to the onset of the Iran war.

Data from the Corporación de Reservas Estratégicas de Productos Petrolíferos (Cores) reveals that sales of 95-octane gasoline, the most commonly used, grew by 19.54%, reaching 77,439 tons, equivalent to over one hundred million liters. The months with the highest demand were summer and December, coinciding with the Christmas holidays, with purchases ranging between 7,241 and 7,771 tons at service stations.
In contrast, diesel A, the most consumed fuel, was the only one to register a slight decrease of 1.15% in the province. This trend is partly explained by the significant fleet of trucks belonging to Lleida's transport companies, which maintain stable consumption, and by the decline in the diesel car fleet. Sales of diesel passenger cars suffered a sharp decline, with only 30 units sold in the first quarter of 2026, a 75% decrease from the previous year. In total, 300,627 tons of diesel A, approximately 358 million liters, were sold in 2025.
Regarding diesel B, known as agricultural diesel, farmers in Lleida increased their consumption by more than 10%, from 88,164 tons in 2024 to 97,236 tons in 2025. Other fuels also showed variations: diesel C or heating oil increased by 14.33% (13,364 tons), 98-octane gasoline by 15.17% (3,856 tons), while light fuel oil BIA decreased by 16.96% (553 tons). At the national level, total fuel consumption was 29.079 million tons, a 2.6% increase from 2024.
