The General Directorate of Police has confirmed that the replacement of Antonio Royo Subías as provincial commissioner in Lleida will be resolved as soon as possible through official channels.

Official sources stated that the resignation of the Deputy Operational Director (DAO) in Madrid will not stall the process. Gemma Barroso, head of Human Resources, is currently managing the file to appoint a permanent successor for the position in Lleida.

"The fact that the DAO has resigned does not mean the procedures will stop. The appointment of the new commissioner is on track."

The controversy stems from Royo's 2003 conviction for sexual harassment. Local mayor Fèlix Larrosa has reiterated he will not attend the Local Security Board meeting on February 24 if Royo is present. The police are now using a specific legal procedure to ensure a definitive leadership change.
