The president of Òmnium Cultural, Xavier Antich, met this Monday with the Mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, at the Paeria to demand mechanisms that guarantee linguistic rights in the city.

During the meeting, the organization highlighted the need to reverse the decline in Catalan language customer service observed over the last decade. Although Linguistic Use Survey data shows that Catalan is used by 51.1% of the population in the Ponent region—well above the national average of 32.6%Antich warned against complacency.

"Mechanisms must be applied to prevent any further decline in Catalan language public service in Lleida."
