The RL2 train line, connecting Lleida and La Pobla de Segur, has established itself as a model of railway efficiency in Catalonia, reaching a record 486,859 passengers in 2025.

While the Rodalies service operated by Renfe and Adif faces a reliability crisis, the route managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) since 2015 shows a different reality. In a decade, passenger volume has grown from 74,603 to nearly half a million, a 552.6% increase.

"I've been taking the train for twenty years, and things have improved immensely. There is an abysmal change. The trains are very punctual, and I would dare to say they never fail."

The difference in maintenance is evident at Lleida-Pirineus station. RL2 trains are notably clean and graffiti-free, contrasting with the state-run regional trains. Punctuality has become the line's trademark, with trains often arriving early to facilitate boarding.
