The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a 65-year-old man on Sunday in Lleida as the alleged perpetrator of the violent death of a 53-year-old woman with whom he shared a residence.

The arrest occurred after the man voluntarily went to the Mossos police station mid-afternoon to confess to the events, which took place in a home on Ciutat de Fraga street in Lleida. The investigation, led by the Ponent Criminal Investigation Division, indicates that the victim and the alleged perpetrator lived together, although they were not in a romantic relationship.
Despite the immediate activation of units from the Medical Emergency System (SEM), the health personnel who arrived at the property could do nothing to save the woman's life, confirming her death at the scene.

The Lleida City Council has condemned the feminicide and decreed three days of mourning in the municipality, calling for a minute of silence and a protest concentration.

This incident is the second crime of this nature reported in Catalonia this week, following the arrest by the Mossos d'Esquadra in Barcelona of a 22-year-old man for the death of a woman in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
