The Catalan biotechnology company Dapibus, specializing in breeding insect larvae for animal feed, is negotiating with the Consorci del Segrià Sud for its potential implementation in the municipality of Seròs, located in the Segrià region.

The firm Dapibus, founded in 2021 and currently operating in Abrera (Barcelona), focuses on feeding black soldier fly larvae to obtain animal protein and fat. The process also yields material for organic fertilizers.

"convert organic waste into high added value products for the agri-food industry"

Àlex Segura · CEO of Dapibus
The president of the consortium and mayor of Torrebesses, Mario Urrea, highlighted that the area around Seròs offers both the organic waste needed to feed the larvae and local farms to sell the final product. He also mentioned the possibility of applying for aid from the Generalitat's nuclear fund.

"It will become an engine of innovation that will contribute to the economic and social progress of the area"

"it is not the project of a single town, but work is being done for the entire territory"

Josep Antoni Romia · Mayor of Seròs
The Consorci del Segrià Sud brings together twelve municipalities in the area: Alcanó, Almatret, Aspa, La Granja d’Escarp, Llardecans, Maials, Massalcoreig, Sarroca de Lleida, Seròs, Sunyer, Torrebesses, and Torres de Segre.
