The doctors' strike, called for Wednesday and Thursday, showed a large disparity in follow-up figures between the convening union, Metges de Catalunya, which recorded 45% participation, and the Conselleria de Salut (Ministry of Health) of the Generalitat, which placed it at 6.5% across the territory.
By province, the union detailed that the follow-up was 52% in Barcelona, 45% in Tarragona, and 20% in both Lleida and Girona. Regarding the healthcare sector, participation was 46% in primary care and 39% in hospital care.
The doctors are protesting to demand a medical agreement that takes into account their specific needs.
Parallel to the stoppages, a new demonstration marched through the center of Barcelona, marking the fourth day of the strike following those in October and December. The doctors, dressed in white coats and wearing masks with the face of Minister Olga Pané, marched from Plaça Sant Jaume to the Parlament (Catalan Parliament).
The march was led by a banner with the slogan “It affects you too,” emphasizing that the demands seek to improve general healthcare.
