The Secretary of Mobility of the Generalitat, Manel Nadal, informed mayors and regional council presidents on Wednesday about the renewal of the Rodalies fleet for southern lines, including the R13, with an anticipated start in the first quarter of 2027.

The announcement, made by Manel Nadal, Secretary of Mobility for the Catalan government, took place on Wednesday before mayors of municipalities along the R13 line (connecting Barcelona and Lleida via Valls) and presidents of the involved regional councils. This measure is part of a new plan for Rodalies.
The initiative involves a 'renewal' of the fleet for the southern regions' lines, through the reassignment of trains that Renfe will cease to use on the RL3 line (Cervera-Lleida) once Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) takes over its operation. This strategy would theoretically allow for an increase in service frequency on lines such as the R15 and R16, provided the Terres de l'Ebre are included in this geographical definition, a point Nadal clarified.
The R13 line, which links Lleida with Barcelona passing through the capital of Alt Camp, would be the first in the south of the country to benefit from this railway material movement. The forecast is for this improvement to materialize from the first quarter of 2027, with an increase from four to six trains for the connection.
However, regarding the Terres de l'Ebre, there is no concrete short-term planning or programming that guarantees changes or improvements in their railway services.
