The solemn minute of silence took place at noon, after the man accused of the crime, aged 65, turned himself in to the police station and confessed to murdering the victim in her apartment on Carrer Ciutat de Fraga. Following the mayoral decree approved on November 11, 2022, the council declared three days of official mourning.
During the three days of mourning, the city flag will fly at half-mast adorned with a black ribbon. Furthermore, the Paeria building will be illuminated in purple as a symbol of rejection of gender violence, and a minute of silence will be observed at all scheduled municipal events.
The Paeria applies the 2022 mourning decree for the second time, reaffirming the institutional commitment against gender violence.
This tragic event raises the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in the Lleida region to thirteen since 2003. Although official figures do not always include them, the text recalls other recent cases, such as the one in Balàfia in December 2022 and an incident on the C-12 last May.
