The cancellation affected one of the most anticipated events in the program commemorating Saint Anthony the Abbot, patron saint of animals and a key festival for the agricultural sector in the capital of Segrià.
This year's edition was marked by the demands of producers from l’Horta de Lleida, who used the gathering to speak out against the agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur bloc, which they view as detrimental to Catalan agriculture.
If you approve Mercosur, you will eat poison and ruin the farmer.
Despite the parade's suspension, some events continued, including the traditional blessing of animals at the doors of the Església de la Sang, where dozens of people gathered with their pets.
