A man was sentenced to six years in prison by the Audiència de Lleida this Thursday, after admitting he attempted to stab another individual to death in the Pardinyes neighborhood in July 2023.

The sentence, which is now firm, results from a plea agreement between the defense, the prosecution, and the private accusation. The penalty is divided into five years for attempted homicide and an additional year for threats made against the victim's partner.

The convicted man must pay 440,000 euros in compensation to the victim, who has been recognized as having absolute disability.

The events took place on the morning of July 1, 2023, on Xavier Puig i Andreu Street, when the two individuals started arguing, presumably over a traffic issue. The defendant stabbed the other man four times in the neck and back, according to the Public Ministry.
Following the assault, the accused attempted to attack the victim's partner, who took refuge in her vehicle. The aggressor struck the car windows with the knife before fleeing. The victim was evacuated in critical condition to Hospital Arnau de Vilanova and later transferred to Hospital Vall d’Hebron, taking over a year and a half to recover from the resulting injuries.
Thanks to the plea agreement, the sentence was reduced from the 10 years initially sought by the Prosecution to 6 years. In addition to the prison sentence and compensation, the ruling imposes a 200-meter restraining order for five years regarding the assaulted man and four years regarding the threatened woman.
