The Lleida City Council presented the new project "La Seu Vella, reality rediscovered," which uses virtual reality glasses to allow visitors to relive the monument's medieval splendor before its public launch next spring.
By putting on virtual reality glasses, visitors will be able to walk through the central nave of the ancient Seu Vella cathedral, seeing it full of color, with its paintings, sculptures, and spectacular tapestries that decorated the space during the Middle Ages. They will also witness its transformation when the building was stripped to become a military barracks.
The Mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, was the first to test the new system on February 5, 2026, enjoying a virtual walk through the cloister. The first four special viewing devices debuted with a seven-minute video in Catalan, which will soon have versions in Spanish, French, and English.

"The Seu Vella has giant potential in the field of immersive and virtual reality technologies to experience firsthand moments that faithfully recreate the most transcendental periods in the monument's history."
The Lleida-based company Invelon Technologies is responsible for promoting this project, which currently focuses on the central nave and the cloister. The visual content has been developed with strict historical accuracy, supported by historians and the Seu Vella Chair at the University of Lleida.

"We have advanced, from the original idea of creating a mapping to this new immersive technology, which will provide a significant boost to the monument. We marry history and innovation with local talent."
The Director of the Turó, Joan Baigol, explained that the project will grow with new content, such as the possibility of viewing historical episodes like the Siege of Santa Cecília from the King's Castle, showing the French troops attempting to conquer the city.
