The Sau and Susqueda reservoirs reached their technical limits this March 2026 following intense rainfall that has pushed Catalan water reserves to historic levels.

The water situation in Catalonia has seen a radical shift. Internal basins are currently at 98.7% capacity, 61% higher than the same date last year. This surge has pushed the Susqueda dam to 102%, causing it to overflow for the first time since the drought ended.
Meanwhile, the Sau reservoir is at 99% capacity. Authorities have advised caution near the Ter, Muga, and Ges rivers in the Girona region, as more rain is expected next week. Other reservoirs like Riudecanyes and Llosa del Cavall have also reached 100%.
