The town of Solsona marked its most iconic Carnival tradition this Saturday night with the ceremonial hanging of a papier-mache donkey from the Torre de les Hores.

Renowned mountain runner Núria Picas served as this year's guest of honor. After midnight, Picas personally pulled the rope to raise the figure up the medieval tower as the crowd gathered in the narrow streets of the Solsonès capital.

"Solsona's Carnival shouldn't be explained, it must be experienced."

Following tradition, the donkey 'urinated' water over the revelers below, while neighbors joined in by throwing buckets of water from their balconies. The event is a highlight of the local festivities, drawing thousands to witness the unique spectacle in Catalonia.
