The theatrical adaptation of The Crown of Thorns, written by Josep Mª de Sagarra and directed by Xavier Albertí, has been a public success at the Kursaal Theatre in Manresa. The play, set in Solsona in 1793, explores social hypocrisy and vested interests in the context of the old regime and the emergence of the ideas of the French Revolution. The cast includes prominent actors such as Manel Barceló, Abel Folk, Oriol Genís, and the highly praised Àngels Gonyalons.
The plot focuses on the Lord of Bellpuig (played by Abel Folk), who seeks a marriage of convenience for his nephew, Eudald (Jan D. Casablancas), to save his financial ruin. Eudald, returning from France with ideas of transformation, symbolizes the new social class. In contrast, the character of Marta, the housekeeper played by Àngels Gonyalons, becomes the voice of wisdom and experience, breaking her silence to claim humanity against social conventions.
To coexist is not to invade the space of others to expand one's own. Because going to the theatre and being more focused on devices... must be compensated by vigorous applause.
Despite the artistic success, critics point out that mobile phones once again ruined crucial scenes of the production, a situation that has been repeated in other recent performances at the Kursaal. This lack of respect or addiction was especially evident during the most inopportune scenes, with instant messaging and calls sounding. The final performance of the play took place on Monday, January 26 at 6 p.m., with stalls sold out but amphitheater seats still available.
