The alarm for the incident was received at 1:31 AM on Monday in a multi-family building in the town of Constantí. The fire originated on the fourth floor and spread rapidly to the upper levels of the property.
Personnel from the Bombers de la Generalitat, who deployed up to 10 units and 28 firefighters, found the lifeless body of the 54-year-old man on the fourth floor, where the fire was most intense. Several neighbors were at their windows or on the roof when emergency teams arrived.
The magnitude of the fire required a large-scale operation, involving the mobilization of ten units of the Bombers de la Generalitat.
The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) attended to four people. Two were transferred with minor injuries to Hospital Joan XXIII, while two others were discharged on site. Firefighters also evacuated two people from the fifth floor and two more from the attic terrace using a ladder truck.
The fire was declared under control at 2:06 AM. The Mossos d'Esquadra have taken charge of the investigation to determine the exact origin and causes of the fire, as well as the corresponding judicial proceedings.
