Jordi Collado, spokesperson for the commons, announced the agreement with the PSC during a press breakfast, noting that three buildings have already been added to the municipal stock. An acquisition signed on January 13 joins two recent properties, collectively providing about thirty flats.
According to the Local Housing Plan estimates presented by Collado, the city of Tarragona requires approximately 1,500 social rental flats to meet current demand. The council is optimistic that, combining existing and projected units, the city expects to reach one thousand units by 2028.
“"The Catalan Housing Agency has been asleep for fifteen years, doing nothing and with nobody expecting anything from it."
Regarding urban planning, Collado stressed that this year is crucial for drafting the POUM (Urban Planning Master Plan). However, he predicted that the municipal government's deadlines would not be met, emphasizing the need for 50% of new construction flats to be officially protected housing.
