The transformation of the former disused parking surface was presented at a public hearing on January 24. The new space will become one of the largest children's parks in Altafulla. The necessary investment is estimated at around 300,000 euros, with a planned duration of six months of work. Co-Mayor Alba Muntadas explained that the goal is to start the work by the end of 2026, pending review of the remaining budget from the previous fiscal year.
“"We are keen for the students to see that the work they did will be materialized and will have meaning."
The plans were directly inspired by the ideas contributed by students from Escola La Portalada in a participatory process initiated around 2023. The architect, Ricard Sánchez, detailed that the park will feature four triangular, color-coded play zones: one for inclusive games (blue), an adventure zone with dynamic games like a rope pyramid (yellow), a 'fitness' and calisthenics area (orange), and a fourth space for traditional games and learning to skate or cycle. The first three will have soft flooring.
The total surface area of the park will be approximately 1,200 square meters. In addition to the play areas, the project includes planting trees, picnic zones, new lighting, and benches. Provisions are also made for potentially including services and a fountain. The City Council does not rule out the possibility of children continuing to be involved in developing new structures for the complex in the future.
