The Minister of Territori i Sostenibilitat, Sílvia Paneque, stated this Wednesday in the Catalan Parliament that the high-voltage line (MAT) between Aragon and Tarragona is essential.

Despite the 14,400 objections filed by local councils and citizens, Paneque argued that these contributions will serve to improve the final project. The minister emphasized that the Government has already blocked three other high-voltage projects that would have been more damaging to the local environment.

"We have avoided three high-voltage lines that would have been devastating for the territory."

The project by Red Eléctrica involves dismantling the existing line to la Secuita and building a new one with triple the capacity. The 180-kilometer infrastructure will feature towers up to 55 meters high, crossing 28 municipalities in areas including Priorat, Baix Camp, and Tarragonès.
