A technical failure in the Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) system blocked the Sant Vicenç de Calders station this Thursday, worsening the ongoing rail crisis in southern Catalonia.

The incident forced a two-hour suspension of services at a critical junction. Civil Protection activated the Ferrocat emergency plan as lines R2 Sud and R4 faced significant closures between Cunit and El Vendrell.
Regional lines R14, R15, R16, and R17 were also hit, with trains terminating at Torredembarra. Renfe organized alternative bus transport to ferry passengers toward El Prat de Llobregat and other key hubs.
This disruption occurred alongside planned engineering works at the Garraf tunnels. While rail traffic resumed around 3:15 PM, the combination of the breakdown and existing works caused severe delays for thousands of commuters.
