The DO Montsant wine authority has formally rejected the Very High Voltage (MAT) power line project scheduled to connect Escatrón and la Secuita as of March 2026.

The project involves a 200-kilometer line with towers reaching 50 meters in height. Local producers in Priorat fear the 400 kV infrastructure will fragment agricultural land and damage the region's growing wine tourism sector.
Representing 55 wineries and 500 growers, the DO Montsant has joined a wave of opposition that has already filed over 14,400 formal objections. They call for a revision of the plans to protect the 2,000 hectares of vineyards currently in production.
