Port of Tarragona Increases Cargo Traffic by 2% Through April

The Port of Tarragona has recorded a 2% increase in cargo traffic during the first four months of 2026, exceeding 10.3 million tons handled.

The Port of Tarragona has consolidated its positive trend in cargo traffic over the first four months of 2026, reaching 10,361,300 tons. This represents a 2% increase compared to the same period last year. The movement of bulk liquids continues to be the main driver of activity, with a 3.1% growth recorded in April alone.
Despite a slight 3% decrease in bulk solids during the last month, this segment has accumulated a 6.5% growth in the first quarter, with nearly 3 million tons handled. The cruise sector also shows a notable improvement, with 4,304 passengers in April and a total of 5,146 cruise passengers year-to-date, a 21% increase from the previous year.
The Tarragona port infrastructure handled 2,864,365 tons in April, a 2% increase compared to the previous year, consolidating the trend driven by crude oil and containers.
Crude oil has led the growth within bulk liquids, with a 21.8% monthly increase and nearly one million tons handled between January and April. Bulk solids have seen a rebound of 26.9% in coal and petroleum coke, as well as in energy products and iron ore.
General cargo has increased by 14.1%, reaching 186,220 tons. Container traffic (TEUs) has grown by 12.9% since the beginning of the year. The main commodities are crude oil (30.3%), cereals and their flours (15.1%), and chemical products (12.8%).
Regarding international trade, the United States is the main trading partner by volume (14.5%), followed by Spain (11%) and Nigeria (9.5%).
