The agricultural mobilizations continue to affect circulation at strategic points of the Catalan road network. The AP-7 remains closed in both directions along an 18-kilometer stretch between Borrassà (Alt Empordà) and Vilademuls (Pla de l'Estany). The N-II cut between Bàscara and Pontós (Alt Empordà), and the C-16 between Berga and Casserres (Berguedà) are also maintained. Furthermore, the C-38 at coll d'Ares (Ripollès) restricts truck passage.
“"responsibility to the rest to avoid greater evils."
The blockade at the Port of Tarragona access via the A-27 remains firm, despite contacts held during Saturday with Minister Òscar Ordeig. Farmers ratified the cut in an assembly and demand that the minister travel to Madrid to secure clauses protecting Catalan agriculture from unfair competition. This demand is a prerequisite without which they do not intend to lift the protest.
Spokespersons for Revolta Pagesa have warned that they see it “very difficult” to lift the encampment and that they have the capacity to hold out thanks to shifts. They warned that the protests could escalate if the Government does not get involved to stop or modify the agreement with Mercosur. This treaty, which the EU has endorsed with the support of Spain, would allow the massive entry of cheaper Latin American products without the same quality and safety requirements applied to local producers.
